Pasta isn’t just for mealtime, but also serves as the perfect ingredient for crafting a special keepsake. Dried pasta, whether it is a wagon wheel, elbow, or penne is the perfect beginning for your next art project. Entertain the kids for hours with these easy to do activities.

Pasta Jewels
Dress-up mealtime with a dazzling necklace or beautiful bracelet made from your favorite pasta.

  • Uncooked Dried Pasta (Macaroni, Ziti, Wagon Wheels, Ditalini, etc.)
  • Ribbon, Elastic Thread, Nylon Fishing Line, or Twine
  • Liquid Food Coloring
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Disposable Containers
  • Masking Tape
  • Newspaper
  1. Combine two tablespoons of rubbing alcohol with one tablespoon of food coloring. Pour into disposable container. Add one cup of your favorite dried pasta, cover and shake until reach desired color.
  2. Spread the colored pasta on sheets of newspaper to dry.
  3. After pasta has dried, select your stringing material and tie a knot around one piece of pasta to serve as an “anchor”.
  4. Wrap a piece of masking tape around the other end of the strand, this will make for easier threading
  5. Begin stringing colored pasta
  6. After you finish stringing your strand, tie the end and model your new bracelet or necklace.

- Elbow, Bow Tie, Penne, Wagon Wheel, etc. to showcase your favorite photograph.

Craft Materials:

  • Card Stock
  • Pasta Shapes
  • Spray Paint
  • Strong Glue
  • Tape
  • Magnetic Strips
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  1. Take card stock and measure and cut the size of frame you want. Next, cut out the middle to fit the size of photo you want to frame.
  2. Glue pasta shapes onto the frame. When pasta is dry take the frame outside and spray with chosen spray paint.
  3. Leave frame to dry.
  4. Tape picture on the back of the frame and you have a one-of-a-kind photo frame.
  5. Turn your frame into a magnet by gluing a magnet on the back of the cardstock.
